Top Ten Tuesday – July 16th

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish @ http://brokeandbookish.blogspot.com/2013/07/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-authors-who.html

This week’s topic is Top Ten Authors Who Deserve More Recognition

I was super excited to do this week’s Top Ten. I forget how lucky we are in the blogging world to get to read all the new and upcoming authors and I feel so lucky to read some of these books first and to get the word out how amazing they are! So here’s my list! Excited to see everyone else’s too – post yours in the comment if you don’t blog or give me a link – excited to maybe find some new authors I’d like to check out!

top ten tuesday july 16

So i’m trying something a little new there with the artwork thing – not totally sure it’s clear but i’ll list below too and tell you WHY they are super awesome!

1. Kasie West: I just read “The Distance Between Us” not too long ago and LOVED the book – what a perfect summer read and I thought her writing was great, excited to see new things coming from her!

2. Veronica Rossi: I loved the “Under the Never Sky” books so far and am SUPER excited to see the new book coming out next year – the ending of the second book was probably one of the best middle book endings EVER!

3. Leah Rae Miller: I read “The Summer I Became a Nerd” earlier this year and really enjoyed it. Her writing is funny and yet not corny. Hope we see something from her again too soon!

4. Emma Chase: Now this is absolutely an up and coming author! If you have’t heard me rave about “Tangled” yet — check out my review. OMG. Her writing is hilarious and down to earth and I loved the male POV throughout the story — I just could not stop laughing, but at the same time it was a great storyline and well written. You have to check her out if you have not yet!

5. J. Kenner: This is the author of the Stark series which includes “Claim Me”, “Release Me”, and “Complete Me” – and i hope a 4th book soon. These came out after the 50 shades and the Sylvia Day series but I just really liked this writing more than either of the other two to be honest – so check it out!

6. Jessica Park: WOW – that is all I can say.. She has a book coming out today actually, “Left Drowning” – a MUST read and I was lucky enough to read before hand, check out my review here and a special first chapter exerpt! She is also the author of “Flat Out Love” and “Flat Out Matt” and is maybe my favorite author right now – her writing is funny and real at the same time with characters you just want to fall in love with. Let’s just say that with all 3 books I was hooked in the first few pages!

7. Alice Clayton: She wrote “Wallbanger” and I really enjoyed this. It’s a new series I think – so we should see more here and I am looking forward to it, I liked that here you saw the male POV and the female POV at the same time.

8. Jamie McGuire: “Beautiful Disaster” and “Walking Disaster” are books I could read over and over, and have done so. Her new books are due out this fall and I absolutely cannot wait! I know she probably gets more publicity than some of the others on here, but I still think she deserves more – her writing and characters are amazing!

9. Jennifer Probst: Now this author isn’t brand new, but i still don’t think she gets all the raving she deserves. I’m reading her “Millionaire” series which the newest book “Marriage Merger” is out in August – when I read her first book I was listening on audio and I was in my mall parking lot – cannot forget this – I was laughing so hard in the car alone, I was getting strange looks. these books are romantic and hot and fun – with great characters (which will get me eveyrtime!). I also enjoy seeing the male and female POV here concurrently as the story goes on.

10. Suzanne Young: If you have not read “The Program” yet, then you may live under a rock, get out and read it NOW! I was honestly not sure about this book, it’s probably one of the first more well known titles i got an ARC for – and I could not put it down, and cannot wait for book 2. There is a teaser first chapter up now and it only shows how absolutely amazing this is going to be – check it out!

I have a few other authors I want to mention – outside of my top ten who are just as amazing I couldn’t let it go without them being included:

1. Maya Banks – She has the Rush series and I highly reccommend it

2. Jay Crownover – I’m just discovering the Market Men series with hot bad boys, and reading “Rule” right now – again liking the male and female POV but enjoying the writing too – the characters are flawed and real and great.. It’s TBD how I will like the book, but from the start I think I’d check a second book out for sure!

3. Katie Kacvinsky – She wrote “Awaken” and “Middle Ground” in the middle of this huge dystropian age we have going on and I loved her stories more than most of the others that made huge waves, so I’m trying to get her name out there – she took something everyone else was doing and made it different – she also writes contemporary romances – one of them being “Second Chance” so I would absolutely reccommend checking her out!

Well that’s all kids – for today anyway! Don’t forget that Jessica Park’s new book “Left Drowning” comes out today – check out the first chapter preview and book review on my blog and get this today – a great read!!

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading? • What did you recently finish reading? • What do you think you’ll read next?

This is one of my favorite topics each week because I love to see what everyone is reading and what is next on the TBR pile! So here I go–

1. What am I currently reading?

Well sadly enough (because it’s taking me over a week to finish this book) I am still reading “The Marriage Merger” by Jennifer Probst – I am really enjoying it – I just don’t have a ton of reading time lately…

The Marriage Merger (Marriage to a Billionaire, #4)

2. What did I just finish reading?

I just finished reading “The Distance Between Us” by Kasie West and REALLY enjoyed it – highly reccommend for anyone! Great summer read!

The Distance Between Us

3. What will I read next?

Well this time that is easy, I just got my new ARC in the mail and I have until Monday to read it, so that will be up next. It’s Tumble & Fall by Alexandra Coutts. Excited to get started on this!

Tumble & Fall

Well that’s all for me today folks – let me know what you are reading, what’s next, what great book have you finished? One of the books I”m thinking of adding to my TBR pile is the “Breathing” series by Rebecca Donovan – any thoughts? Happy Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday – July 3rd

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading? • What did you recently finish reading? • What do you think you’ll read next?

Happy Wednesday Everyone! I hope everyone is excited about the holiday and day off for most of us – I know I am!

So my WWW Wednesday this week is as follows:

1. What am I currently reading?

The Marriage Merger (Marriage to a Billionaire, #4)

So far, enjoying it – but all I’ve seen so far is foreplay – I’m ready for some action here! I’m reading for Probst’s awesome steamy writing!

2. What did I just finish reading?

The Distance Between Us

Loved, Loved this book -great summer read or anytime read! I love stories about young love!! I would def suggest checking this out – my full review is posted on the blog main page if you’re interested..

3. What am I going to read next?

Rule (Marked Men, #1)

I have been doing a large debate on this and I have a ton of books I really want to read right now for reviews.. But this came across and I’m interested enough I think to let it bump someone out of the top spot – so for “right now” this is my next planned read. I love a good bad boy love story! Has anyone read it, love an opinion if you have??

So that’s it folks, my WWW Wednesday share. One thing I plan to do tomorrow on my day off is to take some time and FINALLY really organize my TBR list into something that is manageable and actually plan out my reviews and books to read.. Hopefully if i get it somewhat organized I can keep track of where I’m at on this list vs a large jumble of books I am interested in reading. Oh – I still have the last Crossfire series book sitting in my inbox – I haven’t even read that yet so shame on me! I think that will be after this next read for sure!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Share your WWW with me below with your link or just answer in the comment section – love hearing what you’re reading or thinking about reading, or what you thought of the last book you read!

“The Distance Between Us” by Kasie West ARC Review – My First Great Summer Read!

The Distance Between Us

Title and Author: “The Distance Between Us” by Kasie West

Publisher: Harper Teen

Release Date: 7/2/2013

How I Got The Book: I got this as part of the book tour from Around The World ARC Blog

Link to Purchase on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/The-Distance-Between-Us-ebook/dp/B00B0VZRWO/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1372554433&sr=1-2&keywords=the+distance+between+us

General Summary Via GoodReads:

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she’s beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about…

My First Thoughts:

I haven’t read anything yet written by Kasie West, so I wasn’t sure what to think. I have to admit though, the cover really lured me in. For me, some covers are just so-so, bu tthen some come along and forwhatever reason appeal to me and make me want to check the book out – and this is one of those books. Then I started reading and from the first page Caymen had me laughing. I really loved her dry sense of humor. Then there was Skye – who I also enjoyed. Of course, it does go without saying that Xander was hot from the first minute –and sweet, and dreamy! So, my first thought of this book is that it was a typical YA love story, good characters, some humor, and would be a great summer read! I also thought from chapter one, well more so knew I would end up enjoying the story. I liked West’s writing and I really enjoyed the character POV changes, even slight, to see somethings from other perspectives. It certainly had me hooked, I think I read the whole book in 3 days – with my work load lately – that is fast!

The Characters:

We can start with Caymen. As I said before, I loved her dry sense of humor.  It made some more…slow parts of the book humorous, and you never really knew what she would say or what she was thinking – so that made her interesting. I also enjoyed that she was a strong character, a do-er.. She saw a problem, like with her Mom, and started thinking of how to help, she wasn’t helpless and didn’t whine like a normal teenager – which made her a great character and a strong female character. I enjoyed her relationship with her Mom and with Skye. She may have not had a ton of friends, but you could tell she was loyal to those she loved. I have seen some other reviews that posed the question why Mason was even brought into the story, but I think he served a vital role.. it was to allow Caymen to have a choice – to choose to go for her Prince Charming or to choose someone “safe” that she did like and she saw on her own level.  I think it was she that told Xander that every now and then you have to take a chance and be willing to fail, and this was her chance, stepping out of her comfort zone. When you think of her character – you understand why this would be her challenge. Then enter Zander – the boy with the perfect life (per se), dreamy looks, and sweet heart. I really wanted her to give him a chance from the first minute.  I was frustrated when she wouldn’t open up to him and just give him a chance.. But he saw that and didn’t run away – he wanted to know her so much he took the baby steps and waited it out while they got to know each other. One of my favorite scenes is the scene where they dig the grave.. This is totally weird scenerio – I know – but Xander jumped right in and dug into it, even getting blisters and not complaining trying to show her he was different, he wasn’t a pretty boy without a back bone. I just really enjoyed the way they were when they were together.  It’s like they fit and completed each other. Toward the end, you see new characters enter into Caymen’s life and it does stir things up, but it brings good change..you’ll see. I don’t want to add any spoilers about the new characters, but I will say I really enjoyed the ending this book and I really loved the characters, they were full and believeable. I am kind of hoping Kasie West will add another addition into this series, i would love to see Sky’e story and of course see more of Xander and Caymen!

Overall Thoughts:

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. This is my first “official” summer read and this is a perfect summer read. If you’re headed to the beach, or just by the pool — or even looking for a great read – check it out! It’s the kind of book that can follow something really serious or something very deep. This book has enough meat to make it interesting, enough steam to make you swoony, and enough humor to make you laugh – it’s the perfect combination for a summer read! I highly reccommend it! So I give the book 4/5 Sunshines!

This book is a great, fun read for your summer “to-read” list – so check it out today. It comes out on July 2nd via Amazon.  I’ll post the link to purchase it above next to the book cover. I really like to always include a quote (I’m a quote girl!) so check that out below! I coudln’t find a great quote that doesn’t give anything away, so i decided to give a tid-bit. Hope you enjoy! Love to hear your thoughts if  you’ve read it or if you want to – just post in the comment section below!

Tid Bit From The Story:

he stops suddenly, becoming very still.  I’m confused.  I was sure he was coming to some sort of powerful conclusion that I really want him to make.  Something that’ll make me say, “It’s okay. Love conquers all.” But instead he offers me his lower-lip biting smile and I almost rush into his arms.  For the first time since I walked away from him the other night my heart feels whole.

There are some amazing quotes in the book and I deliberated over them, but I don’t want to spoil the great story for anyone! I don’t want to spoil the sweetness, and innocense as Caymen and Xander form their story.  This quote I think shows the story is real.. In real life, people (for the most part – there may still be those prince charming’s out there) don’t make large grandiose speeches that change lives, or change feelings.. In real life, we just forgive each other, when you love someone, you just can’t stay angry.. and being with them is more important than anything else!

SO – check it out – “The Distance Between Us” by Kasie West is a great story, fun and romantic, humorous and real. It’s a great summer read, or anytime read.. Get it and check it out – that’s what I reccommend! You won’t regret it!

Thursday Book Talk – All the Buzz on Books June 27th

Happy Thursday Everyone and welcome to my first official “me only” meme Thursday Book Talk! This meme is dedicated to talking about anything you want, book news, where you’re at in a book, what you want to read next, any rants you have – really anything you want to put out there

This week I actually have a few things to talk about, one exciting and one kind of sad – but a wake up call to me for sure!

The first thing is the awesome new book I’m reading – “The Distance Between Us” by Kasie West.  I am really loving it!

The Distance Between Us

I actually got it through a Book Blog Tour – my very first one – So I know this book will hold some sentimental value to me always b/c of that (cheesy I know!).  Anyway, I forgot I even applied until I saw the email saying a book was headed to me – of course I dropped by next in line book because you get 7 days to read and review (wow -this is a short time frame – I was suprised – but hey I’m a go with the flow girl – so I’ll make it work!). Ok I am rambling…so now on to the real topic – the book..  I really like it so far. It was described as “Pretty in Pink” meeting “Pride and Prejudice” and a twist of being the perfect summer book – and I am absolutely not dissappointed! I’ve never read anything by Kasie West before – I know others have read and I’ve seen reviews for “Pivot Point” and now I want to check that out too! Anyway – so my full review of this swoon worthy love story -which I have a feeling I haven’t gotten to the heart stomp part yet — you know what I mean right? Well anyway, I’m hoping for once there isn’t a soul crushing moment, but who knows…  If there is one I am going to count on Caymen’s awesome personality to get me through. I don’t like a lot of humor for whatever reason but her dry sacrasm cracks me up!! I really adore her -and for that matter hot Xander (this name reminds me of the same character in Matched – if you read that you will know).I was going to add a quote but realized I didn’t have any — the book isn’t even out yet, but don’t worry I will have one for the full review! There are too many in this book to miss that chance, plus you know I love a good quote!

Now – second point. I saw the saddest thing on Twitter yesterday. Apparnently someone took parts of Jamie McGuire’s book “Beautiful Disaster” and part of Tamara Webber’s book “Easy” – combined them and made a new story that’s been top ten on Amazon since June 21st. I was like..really?? Then, WOW — Shocking. Who could do that, and the worst part is it was not just small parts but entire paragraphs and sections with maybe 1 sentence added in between. I cannot believe somoene would do that – of course there are loyal fans out there who may see and point it out. I hadn’t read it yet, but it was on my TBR and I had a “mild” case of infatuation over “Beautiful Disaster” so I would have 100% recognized that content — I just thought it was crazy, had to mention it because you never really know what is going to happen next and that proves it.

Well readers, that’s all for today, Happy Thursday! Super excited about tomorrow being Friday and next week being a short week thanks to the holiday —

Love to hear about some Book Buzz you know, what you’re reading, or whatever else – comment below!

3. What am I going to read next?

Now – this is the question of the ages.. And I SWEAR it changes every time – I look back at these posts and I don’t think there is even one where I kept my answer true to form.. But as of this moment, my next planned read is “The Marriage Merger” by Jennifer Probst. I actually started it before this current book, but then I got my ARC in the mail for this and it’s due by 7/1 so I had to sideline that to get this one done – so I’m fairly certain this week I’ll keep with my next book – imagine that huh?
